Prof Ntambue Kauta, or Jimmy, as he is commonly known, completed his MBChB in 2002 at the University of Lubumbashi in DRC
This was followed by postgraduate specialisation at the University of Cape Town where he obtained his MMED and FC Orth qualifications in 2017.
After 2 years of general orthopaedic surgery practice Prof Kauta completed an international Shoulder and Knee arthroscopy fellowship at the Hvidovre University hospital in Copenhagen under Prof Per Holmic in 2019.
He returned to Cape Town to start a shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital and Vincent Pallotti under Professor Stephen Roche and professor Basil Vrettos. He was promoted to the rank of an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cape Town in November 2024.
Prof Kauta is the current head of Orthopaedic services at Mitchell’s Plain district Hospital. He runs a part-time private practice at UCT private academic Hospital and Busamed Paardevlei Pravite Hospital. His area of expertise extends from shoulder and elbow surgery to Knee surgery.
