Prof Ntambue Kauta (commonly known as Jimmy) obtained his MBChB from the University of Lubumbashi (DRC) in 2002, before furthering his orthopaedic training at the University of Cape Town, where he earned both his MMed and FC Orth (SA) in 2017. Following two years in general orthopaedic practice, he completed an international Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy Fellowship at Hvidovre University Hospital in Copenhagen under Prof Per Holmic in 2019. He then returned to Cape Town to pursue a Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital and Vincent Pallotti under the mentorship of Professors Stephen Roche and Basil Vrettos
Current Roles & Specialties
As of now, Prof Kauta serves as the Lead Surgeon of the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town. He also holds the position of Head of Orthopaedic Services at Mitchell’s Plain Hospital and maintains part-time private practices at both UCT Private Academic Hospital and Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital. His clinical expertise spans shoulder and elbow surgery, fracture surgery, as well as arthroscopic and open knee surgery
Academic & Research Contributions
Prof Kauta holds an Associate Professorship in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cape Town. His academic interests include shoulder, elbow, knee surgery as well as fragility fractures. He has demonstrated a commitment to advancing orthopaedic care through both clinical practice and scholarly research, contributing to the development of improved treatment approaches and educational efforts within his field.
